Melvin Robert Joins KTLA as New Entertainment Anchor
KTLA, a prominent news channel in Los Angeles, has announced the addition of Melvin Robert to its “Morning News” lineup. This transition comes as the station looks to continue its legacy of engaging morning programming following the loss of longtime host Sam Rubin.
Background on Melvin Robert
Melvin Robert, who has served as a senior correspondent and weekend co-host for “Extra,” will take on the role of entertainment anchor and reporter for KTLA. His position will fill the void left by Rubin, who was renowned for his engaging interviews and captivating presence on local television for over three decades.
Remarks on the New Role
Expressing his excitement about the new opportunity, Robert stated, “I am overjoyed and humbled to join the KTLA 5 family. This show carries such an iconic legacy, and I can’t wait to collaborate with so many people who I love, respect, and admire.” He emphasized the significance of connection and the ability of morning television to unite viewers, adding, “That’s what morning television is all about, and that’s what the arts are all about, pulling us all together and giving us insight into our shared humanity.”
Remembering Sam Rubin
Robert’s appointment comes shortly after the passing of Sam Rubin, who died unexpectedly on May 10 at the age of 64 due to a heart attack. His departure had a profound impact on the KTLA community, with many colleagues and fans expressing their sorrow and gratitude for his contributions to the industry.
Robert’s Journey to KTLA
Before joining KTLA, Robert spent time as an anchor for Fox 11 News’ “Good Day LA” and was also part of the original anchoring team at Spectrum News 1. A native of California and a graduate of Loyola Marymount University, he completed an internship at KTLA back in 2000, coming full circle as he steps into his new position.
A Bright Future Ahead
KTLA’s news director, Erica Hill-Rodriguez, voiced the station’s eagerness for audiences to become acquainted with Robert, saying, “We can’t wait for our viewers to start their mornings with his insight into the world of entertainment and to experience the love he has for the community that has been his lifelong home.” Robert is set to officially begin his role the week of March 17.
The addition of Melvin Robert underscores KTLA’s commitment to maintaining a strong connection with its audience, particularly in the realm of entertainment coverage that Rubin so passionately represented.
