Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana Returns to SPAC for October Residency

by LA News Daily Contributor

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, one of the most renowned flamenco dance companies in the United States, is set to return to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) from October 12–16, 2025, for an exciting and immersive residency. This residency will feature the Flamenco Certamen USA, a national competition designed to highlight and support emerging flamenco talent from across the country. The competition will showcase a range of young dancers vying for the opportunity to refine their skills, with finalists participating in an intensive residency that includes personalized mentorship and live musical accompaniment. The goal is to help these dancers enhance their technique and artistry under the guidance of seasoned professionals.

In addition to the competition, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana is committed to engaging the Saratoga Springs community through various educational initiatives. One of the standout events will be the “Arts Around the World” workshop on October 14, designed specifically for students of SPAC School of the Arts. The workshop will introduce children to global cultures through the powerful medium of dance, fostering an appreciation for international art forms at a young age. This educational component reflects Flamenco Vivo’s ongoing mission to make the arts accessible and engaging for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Later that evening, Flamenco Vivo will host a free public masterclass, open to adults of all experience levels. The masterclass will focus on teaching the fundamentals of flamenco, such as rhythmic clapping, posture, and footwork, giving participants a hands-on introduction to this passionate and expressive dance form. Whether a novice or someone with more experience, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the intricate movements and deep cultural roots of flamenco, guided by expert instructors.

SPAC CEO Elizabeth Sobol expressed great enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the value of such cultural partnerships in enriching artistic engagement and facilitating meaningful cultural exchanges. The residency is a testament to SPAC’s commitment to bringing diverse and dynamic art forms to the Saratoga Springs community and providing platforms for both established and emerging artists to showcase their talents.
