Investigation Underway for Dog Abuse Case in Long Beach

The Long Beach Police Department is actively investigating a disturbing incident of animal cruelty that was captured on video and shared on social media. The footage reveals a man physically abusing a dog near East 12th Street.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the video, which was posted by Animal Hope and Wellness on Instagram, shows a man violently lifting a dog by its leash before slamming it to the ground and kicking it. The event reportedly took place on Monday around 235 East 12th Street.

Community Response

The organization Animal Hope and Wellness has since urged the public to assist in identifying the individual involved in this heinous act. In their Instagram post, they noted, “The man in this video is severely abusing this poor pup without mercy and needs to be found asap. All we can tell is that the man has a skateboard, and so the other skaters in the area may be able to identify who this is.”

Police Action

In response to the incident, the Long Beach Police Department has confirmed that patrol officers have taken an official animal cruelty report, as the incident had not been reported prior to the video release. A statement on X (formerly Twitter) emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing animal abuse: “Animal abuse is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our community.”

Reward Offered by PETA

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is also taking action, pledging a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the man in the video. PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange remarked, “This dog was violently attacked — and who knows what other abuse has not been caught on camera. Someone knows this man, and PETA urges anyone with information to come forward immediately — it could save the dog’s life.”

How to Help

Members of the community are encouraged to come forward with any information that could aid authorities in their investigation. Such actions are vital to ensuring justice for the victimized animal and preventing further incidents of cruelty.
