Orange County Man Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Neighborhood Cats
A 45-year-old resident of Santa Ana, identified as Alejandro Oliveros Acosta, was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection with a string of suspected animal abuse incidents involving neighborhood cats.
Background on the Case
Over the past several weeks, the Santa Ana Police Department has been investigating multiple reports of missing cats and suspected abuse. According to police officials, Acosta is believed to be linked to the disappearance of more than a dozen felines in the neighborhood.
Arrest and Investigation Details
Acosta was apprehended following a thorough investigation that included the identification of the suspect by various witnesses and victims who claimed he lured their pets away. He is now facing felony charges related to animal cruelty, as confirmed by Yessenia Aspeitia, a media relations coordinator for the Santa Ana Police Department.
In a coordinated effort that involved both Santa Ana and Westminster police departments, along with local animal control authorities, a search was conducted at Acosta’s home located on West Wilshire Avenue. Although specific evidence gathered during this operation has not been disclosed, the police believe it is pivotal to the ongoing investigation.
Community Response and Ongoing Investigations
The investigation has sparked considerable concern among local cat owners, many of whom have turned to social media to report missing pets and share security footage. Eva Corlew, a Westminster resident, shared her experience of having her 10-month-old Bengal Lynx cat, Clubber, stolen from her driveway in March. Fortunately, Clubber was later reunited with her.
Next Steps for Authorities
Authorities are actively compiling information to form a clear timeline of incidents related to the case. Efforts are also being made to explore social media accounts detailing stolen or missing cats to supplement the formal complaints already on file.
