A Sacramento County father has been arrested on suspicion of decapitating his 1-year-old son, sheriff’s officials announced.
Andrei Demsky, 28, was arrested Friday on felony charges of murder in connection with the death of a child, assault with force likely to cause serious bodily injury and bodily injury to a spouse, according to authorities and jail records. , was indicted. He is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is not eligible for bail.
Deputies responded to a call of a family disturbance at a home in the 7500 block of Versailles Way in Sacramento County early Friday morning, sheriff’s officials said on social media. A woman outside the home said her husband, Andrei Demsky, assaulted her and her mother, who was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Deputies then tried to contact Demski, but he refused, authorities said. After learning that a 1-year-old boy was inside the home and may have been injured, officers forced entry and attempted to detain Demsky, who resisted, authorities said.
When Demski was taken into custody, officers found the severed head of a child in Demski’s bedroom, officials said. Authorities said a knife was used in the crime.
Sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau detectives were dispatched to the scene. Authorities said an investigation revealed that Demsky was involved in a domestic violence incident with his wife and mother-in-law, and that he decapitated their son after the couple left the house.
The boy’s identity has not been officially identified.
Mr. Demsky is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
