A statewide crackdown on retail crime has resulted in at least 117 arrests in connection with the theft of approximately $40,000 worth of merchandise, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol and several other law enforcement agencies conducted the operation on Dec. 20, resulting in 117 arrests and the recovery of $38,000 in stolen merchandise, according to a news release from Gov. Gavin Newsom. The dollar was reportedly recovered.

Two firearms were also seized along with the three stolen vehicles, the release said. The arrested suspects are expected to be charged with a wide range of crimes, including petty theft, grand theft and organized retail crime.

Authorities said they recovered 767 stolen items, including clothing, perfume and shoes. CHP worked with 10 California law enforcement agencies and 56 retail partners.

I was able to do that.” “Our efforts send a clear message that retail theft in California will not be tolerated.”

CHP worked with the Hemet Police Department, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Police Department, Glendale Police Department, Bakersfield Police Department, Woodland Police Department, Walnut Creek Police Department, Livermore Police Department, and San Ramon Police Department.
