Scheduled for April 13, 2025, the annual Bob Baker Day will return to Chinatown’s Los Angeles State Historic Park, showcasing its signature puppetry and artistic flair. This year, the beloved animated characters SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star will serve as the grand marshals, leading a lively parade that kicks off at 10 a.m.
Event Highlights
The festivities will not only feature the beloved characters from “SpongeBob SquarePants” but will also include a vibrant lineup of performances. Notable participants include:
- Logan Hone and his Feel Good Music Train
- Large-scale puppets from Tierra Del Sol
- A traditional Chinese dragon and percussion band from East Wind Foundation
- David Arquette closing the day as Bozo the Clown
- Performances from the Heart of Los Angeles’ Eisner Intergenerational Big Band, Pacific Opera Project, Maylee Todd, and others
Fostering Community Through Art
This year’s theme, “Recovery through the Arts,” reflects the community’s resilience in the aftermath of the recent wildfires in Los Angeles. Bob Baker Day will feature an area called “Hooray L.A. Village,” dedicated to local institutions and nonprofits focused on:
- Free art activities
- Youth mental health services
- Storytelling programs
Among the special initiatives, 826LA will lead a book-making project, Craft Contemporary will facilitate hand puppet creations, and the Getty Museum will conduct a mask-making workshop. Additionally, Corita Art Center will offer programs aimed at helping participants process grief through artistic expression.
A Legacy of Joy and Creativity
Mary Fagot, co-executive director of the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, emphasized the event’s mission following the challenges faced by the community: “In the days following the devastating fires which impacted so many in our city, we asked ourselves, ‘What can we do to help?’ Right away, we realized that our role was to do what we do best — provide respite, moments of joy, and creativity during a difficult time.”

Bob Baker Day, which began in 2015 to honor the founder of the renowned Bob Baker Marionette Theater, not only celebrates his birthday but also his enduring legacy. Expected to draw approximately 25,000 attendees, the event continues to be free and will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
