One eyewitness, a Times employee who was present at the time, noted that the man had been shouting at dealership staff. Disturbed by his behavior, including waving a metal water bottle and jumping on a parked vehicle, the witness and his wife decided to leave the dealership before the situation escalated further.

After the incident, the driver fled but later surrendered to authorities at a nearby Los Angeles Police Department Recruit Training Center, as confirmed by Inglewood Police Sergeant Cesar Jurado.
