Pilates 80/20™, a boutique studio located in the heart of West Los Angeles’ Cheviot Hills/Mar Vista Corridor, blends classical Pilates principles with an uplifting, community-centered atmosphere.
At Pilates 80/20™, clients step into more than a workout—they enter a space intentionally designed to honor the progressive, holistic system of classical Pilates using all modalities of equipment (Mat, Reformer, Tower, and Chair) in small group class settings, while cultivating positivity, motivation, and belonging. Founded by ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, Master Pilates Instructor, and former YMCA CEO Patrice Ross, the studio, with intention, cultivates its signature philosophy of “80% Pilates…20% Good Vibes™.”
This balance creates an experience where clients build strength and mobility while feeling supported, inspired, and connected.
The Birth of Pilates 80/20™
The vision for Pilates 80/20™ began with a simple but powerful idea: to preserve the integrity of the classical Pilates system while elevating the client experience through professionalism, positivity, support, and community. After more than 10,000 teaching hours and years of leadership as a YMCA CEO, Patrice Ross recognized a gap in the industry. Many studios emphasized the physical discipline of Pilates but often overlooked the individualized attention and thoughtful progressions that help clients advance with confidence.
Ross set out to create something different—a studio offering personalized workouts tailored to each member, grounded in classical Pilates progressions, and supported by a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere. Pilates 80/20™ was born from this vision: a space rooted in classical precision yet strengthened by uplifting, meaningful connection.
The Power of the 80/20 Philosophy
The name Pilates 80/20™ reflects the studio’s signature approach: a blend of classical Pilates discipline with an uplifting, positive atmosphere. The “80% Pilates” represents a deep commitment to the six Pilates principles—concentration, control, centering, precision, breath, and flow. The “20% Good Vibes™” is what distinguishes the studio: the positive energy, encouragement, and sense of community that help clients stay motivated and connected.
It’s important to clarify that this “80/20” has no relation to the Pareto Principle or business-based 80/20 rule. Instead, it is a trademarked philosophy that expresses Pilates 80/20™’s belief that classical Pilates should feel both disciplined and inspiring, creating an environment where clients develop strength, confidence, and overall well-being.
At Pilates 80/20™, the method is rooted in classical principles and progressions, but the experience is elevated by warmth, positivity, and connection — a combination that keeps clients returning not only for the results, but for how the studio makes them feel.
Studio Offerings and Tailored Training
Pilates 80/20™, located at 11263 National Blvd 90064) offers a vast range of classes that allows clients to practice the majority of the classical Pilates repertoire in a class setting, meeting clients exactly where they are in their Pilates journey. The studio provides level-specific small group classes from beginner to advanced that follow classical progressions while allowing for individualized attention. Each full body session incorporates the full spectrum of Pilates modalities — classical Mat, Reformer, Chair, and Cadillac/Tower — ensuring clients experience the method as it was originally intended: progressive, integrated, and holistic.
For clients seeking deeper focus or specialized support, Pilates 80/20™ also offers private training. These one-on-one sessions are customized to individual needs — whether the goal is to build bone density, develop functional strength, improve mobility, recover post-injury, navigate pre/post-natal changes, or support seniors and post-physical-therapy populations. All populations benefit from tailored modifications that prioritize safety, effectiveness, and classical precision.
Across all formats, the emphasis remains the same: thoughtful progressions, individualized attention, and a commitment to helping each client move with clarity and confidence.
Teacher Training and the Bridge Program
Pilates 80/20™ is committed to elevating the next generation of instructors through its comprehensive 500+ hour Pilates Teacher Training Program. Rooted in the progressive system of Pilates, the program provides in-depth instruction across all major modalities — Mat, Reformer, Tower/Cadillac, Chair, Barrels, and auxiliary apparatus — ensuring trainees develop comprehensive technical proficiency and a clear understanding of teaching Pilates as a progressive system on all equipment.
In addition, the curriculum includes anatomy, movement analysis, cueing strategies, hands-on corrections, teaching methodology, professional ethics, observation hours, practice teaching, and written and practical assessments. Upon completion, graduates are prepared to teach with confidence, precision, and integrity, fully equipped to deliver Pilates as a progressive system across all apparatus.
For instructors with partial training or non-comprehensive backgrounds, Pilates 80/20™ offers a Bridge Program providing a streamlined pathway to full comprehensive training. Participants build on their prior experience while completing repertoire and movement principles across all apparatus. Those already certified in specific modules may test out of those components without retaking them, completing only the remaining modules required to become comprehensively certified. This approach ensures each trainee meets Pilates 80/20™’s high standards in becoming a comprehensively trained Pilates professional, while honoring their previous training.
Both programs reflect the studio’s commitment to preserving Pilates education while fostering a supportive and uplifting learning environment — one that mirrors the experience clients receive on the studio floor.
Founder’s Vision
Patrice Ross founded Pilates 80/20™ with a clear and heartfelt mission: to create a space where the respect for classical and traditional Pilates is honored, and where clients feel supported, empowered, and inspired. With more than 10,000 hours of teaching experience and a leadership background as a former YMCA CEO, Ross understands that Pilates is not simply a method of exercise — it is a pathway to strength, alignment, and renewed confidence.
Her vision for the studio is rooted in the teaching of Pilates as a comprehensive progressive system, while also embracing the belief that clients thrive in an environment filled with encouragement and connection. Ross has witnessed countless clients transform not only physically but emotionally when the method is taught comprehensively, with historical intention, compassion, and joy.
“Pilates is not just movement — it’s a return to life,” Ross says. “When you teach the method with integrity and surround people with positivity, the results go far beyond the studio.”
Pilates 80/20™ reflects this philosophy in every detail: thoughtful programming, individualized attention, small class sizes, and an atmosphere where discipline and good vibes coexist. Ross’s vision continues to guide the studio as it grows — shaping a community where technique is honored, progress is celebrated, and clients feel truly seen.
The Equipment: Crafted for Precision
Every piece of equipment inside Pilates 80/20™ was selected with intention and care, and allow its members to practice the entire Pilates repertoire on all apparatus in one studio with a single membership.
Reformers, Towers, Chairs, Barrels, and auxiliary props were chosen for durability and their ability to help clients improve individually.
This attention to detail and equipment integrity reflects Pilates 80/20™’s broader philosophy: when the apparatus aligns with the method, clients experience deeper connections, clearer biomechanics, and more meaningful progress. By investing in equipment designed to honor the comprehensively progressive system of Pilates, the studio ensures that each movement — from foundational exercises to advanced variations — is supported with purpose and intention.
Pilates 80/20™ Today and What’s Next
Pilates 80/20™ has quickly become a popular destination for clients seeking top-tier instruction and a supportive community. Named Best Private Pilates Training in West Los Angeles by the Evergreen Awards in 2025, the studio blends classical flows, personalized attention, and positive energy. Clients appreciate the focus on technique, safety, and progress, while enjoying the small group classes and personalized training that foster connection and growth.
Looking ahead, Pilates 80/20™ is excited to grow with intention. The company plans to open four more corporate-owned studios within the next five years across the greater Los Angeles area.
By 2030, Pilates 80/20™ will introduce partnership-based franchise opportunities for existing boutique Pilates studios and new franchise opportunities for qualified applicants seeking to establish a Pilates 80/20™ location.
These opportunities are rooted in a shared commitment to the client experience—the belief that Pilates is most powerful in environments where clients feel seen, supported, and guided with personal attention. Smaller studios are uniquely positioned to offer this level of care, yet many face challenges competing with larger, high-volume corporate formats. Pilates 80/20™ aims to uplift these studios by offering a pathway to integrate branded infrastructure, operational systems, and professional support, while helping them continue to deliver the intimate, high-quality instruction that clients value so deeply.
Through both partnership-based and new franchise opportunities, Pilates 80/20™ hopes to strengthen the boutique Pilates community, preserve the personal connection clients cherish, and ensure that individualized instruction remains at the heart of the Pilates experience.
Looking to the future, Ross plans to continue expanding Pilates 80/20™’s influence by offering income-based community programs and expanding the teacher training program.
As the Pilates community continues to evolve, Pilates 80/20™ will remain at the forefront, offering a balanced approach that combines discipline with joy.
